Runes and relics
How to use Runic Chest choices, rune combinations and active relics as extensions of an existing build.
Runes and relics
Runes and active relics add another layer to a run, but they work best when the weapon/passive plan is already coherent. Treat them as ways to amplify a direction rather than as isolated collectibles.
Rune choices
The Runic Chest presents a deliberate choice instead of a normal world drop. Before choosing, identify what the current build lacks: raw damage, cadence, survivability, economy or another interaction. Prefer the rune that strengthens several parts of the build at once.
Because a run can hold a limited rune set, an early choice has opportunity cost. Think about the combination you may want later instead of evaluating only the first effect.
Rune combinations
A combination is useful when both ingredients already support the same plan. Do not weaken the entire build just to force a named combo. The canonical rune articles remain the authority for current effects, and those values may be adjusted independently of this strategy guide.
Active relics
Relics should be evaluated by timing and purpose. A defensive relic is valuable when it prevents the failure state your build cannot otherwise solve; a burst relic is strongest when it aligns with dangerous pressure or boss windows.
Some relic pairs have mechanical synergies. When planning around one, verify both individual relic pages and the current combat documentation rather than assuming every thematic pair has a runtime interaction.
The practical rule
First build a stable core, then choose runes that multiply it, then use the relic to solve the hardest moment of the arena. That order produces more consistent runs than building around a single rare interaction.
